YARD DRAINAGE & FRENCH DRAINS
THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF YARD DRAINAGE THAT WE DEAL WITH:
1. Flat areas in the yard that do not drain properly. We generally recommend that you install
a FRENCH DRAIN for this type of water issue.
If you have an area(s) in your yard that holds water for many days after a rain, you may opt to install a French drain. A French drain is a trench that is dug in the middle of the wet area and filled with a perforated drain tile & gravel. The concept is to create a “sponge” that can soak up the water and take it to a different place in your yard or backyard that does have the proper slope. In some cases, we can install a “catch basin” in the wettest areas to allow for the water to enter the French drain from the surface.
2. Gutter Downspouts that should be extended to get water away from the home.
Many homeowners want the benefits of getting the rain water from the roof and sump pump discharges away from the home. The distance for this can vary depending on the slopes of the yard. But, in most cases, you want to take it to a point where the slope can do the rest for you. We do this by attaching an adapter to your gutter downspouts and/or sump pump discharge and hooking up to a solid drain tile or PVC. The water can then be terminated into a discharge box or into your storm sewer at the curb. The picture to the left shows a PVC pipe terminating into a pop up emitter.
