Straw Wattles | Leavenworth

Leavenworth | Straw Wattles

Contractor Mueller Construction hired us to provide the erosion control on the Cereal Ingredients Plant construction project in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Before construction could begin with excavation of the site, erosion control measures had to be in place to ensure that silt would not wash away during rain events.

The contractor opted to use 9″ round Straw Filled Wattles at the perimeter of the excavation area. This product was chosen over silt fence because they did not like the way silt fence would look during the 9 month long construction process. Wattles are visually more appealing and fit into the environment better.

Wattles can be produced in a various diameters, but 9″ was chosen by the engineer on this site. These wattles are compact filled with rice straw and is certified weed free. The netting used to encase the straw is a high density polyethylene that contains ultra violet inhibitors.
